Here’s how to use iPhone Back-Tapping the correct way

Do you know that you can do back tapping on your iPhone? In case you don’t know, since iOS 14 introduced back in 2020, Apple enabled 2 hidden buttons on the iPhone, double back-tapping and triple back-tapping. Read here for more details: What is Back-Tapping on iPhone at JILAXZONE.

For those who know the Back-Tapping feature, do you find the feature always work for you? I bet many of you will say, the feature is mostly not working or isn’t always working or intermittently working, some of you will say feature is buggy and unusable. As it turned out, that’s because many of you didn’t do it the right way. In this article, I’m going to share with you how you can use iPhone double and triple back-tapping the correct way so they will always work for you.


Here’s how to properly use Back Tap on your iPhone

The following steps are tested on iPhone XR running on iOS 16.

Follow the simple steps below to ensure your back-tapping is always working.


1) Configured the iPhone Back Tap buttons

Ensure you have configured the Back Tap. Follow the steps below if you haven’t configured yours.

a) Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.
b) Tap on “Double Tap” and assign the action.
c) Tap on “Triple Tap” and assign the action.


2) Back-Tapping the correct way

For iPhone XS or earlier modelFor iPhone 11 or later model
2018 iPhone XS iPhone XS MAX iPhone X SE jilaxzone.com
iPhone XS or earlier model is indicated by the Apple logo location on the upper side of the back case

Do double tap or triple tap on the Apple logo located on the back.Do double tap or triple tap on the center back case above the Apple logo and below the Camera.

Do test it out a few times so that you get used to it. Do note that back-tapping is only working when iPhone screen is turned on.


Bring it all together

So now you knew how to use iPhone Back-Tapping feature the right way, you have 2 additional buttons to help you navigate your iPhone. For my case, I used the double back-tapping for application switcher and triple back-tapping to turn of the iPhone screen/locking the iPhone. What about your usage?
