Apple iPhone memory sizes from the beginning until iPhone 12 Pro Max (RAM Size)

Fun fact: Up to date, though the latest iPhone bears the name iPhone 12, but in fact Apple has released 29 models of iPhone since 2007!

See how iPhone has evolved overtime – from the memory size point of view, in this particular is RAM size. To me, RAM is one of the key indicator apart from CPU, how complex and at the same time how efficient an operating system is. While the bigger the size of RAM is definitely better and helps, but bigger memory may not be required if the underlying operating system and processes are fully optimized.

And this is one of the reason I like Apple, using limited amount of memory (RAM size) when you compared to nearest competitors – Android (Samsung, Huawei, Sony), iPhone with lower amount of memory can do a lot better – as seen on benchmarks and comparisons video, all thanks to tightly coupled hardware and software, worked together by the same company.

Here you go. These are the iPhone RAM size since the beginning till now – 2020.

Is iPhone RAM Size considered small?

As you can see from the list above, iPhone on the early days has a very small amount of RAM – in fact until today, the latest and greatest iPhone (as of 2020 is the iPhone 12 Pro Max) has only 6GB of RAM. While it’s getting more comparable now to Android flagship, but still iPhone RAM size is considered small especially if you compare it with the highest Android flagship specs.

However like mentioned earlier, since Apple made both the hardware (read: iPhone) and the software (read: iOS), Apple can fully optimize the OS to make use of the limited RAM size as efficient as they can, which in results, more often iPhone with smaller RAM size are winning the speed test with Android devices (you don’t believe me? Google or see them at YouTube).
